Education President Update:

The university is open to changing the design of the certificates

Students who are supporting this petition have sent me some examples of certificates from other institutions and also designed some example certificates themselves.

I have sent these examples to the university's marketing department, requesting that they draft up some possible designs. We will then conduct a poll among students to find a preferred option.

The current degree certificate one receives upon graduating from St. Mary’s looks like something one could make themselves and print off from the library printer.

Compared to other universities, it makes the St. Mary’s degree appear to be of less quality and less legitimate.

Given the number of years and amount of effort a student must achieve in order to obtain one – not to mention the financial burden – it (the physical/paper diploma) should look much more remarkable than it currently appears.

I agree, all of our hard work for the three years of study doesn’t show in the standard of the degree certificates. It literally looks like something I could write and print myself.

It's only right that the quality of the degree be reflected in its certificate. The current design does not reflect, in neither style nor quality, the level of achievement it's meant to represent.

The degree should be considered an achievement of three-four years of hard work and effort, and is built up as such by the university staff throughout our tenure, yet the certificate provided to symbolize this, isn't reflective of that fact in quality and design.

The degree needs to show all our hard work during the 3to 4 years of study .

This a very small to make but significantly great decision to make, three years of study should at least be rewarded by something of a better standard, it is something that many people will carry with them for the rest of their lives and should reflect that.

The existing quality of degree certificates from the university does very little to truly reflect the effort that goes into earning one of them. An improve in cosmetic quality would only help the students look back at the university and the degree they worked so hard to get in a positive fashion… Definitely worth improving, if possible from the upcoming graduation itself.

The appearance of the degree is amusingly similar to the many letters I received as a student by the university. It feels like a gross misinterpretation of all the hard work students have done to deserve this.

It looks embarrassing, I can't hang that in an office around my peers and co workers. People didn't pay thousands for a sheet of paper that looks like it was made in MS Paint in three minutes. Ridiculous.

I would really love to see future St. Mary's graduates receive a proper certificate that truly represents the time and effort they put in for it. Having come from across the world and even being stuck here during lockdown, I was quite disappointed with the certificate I received.
